How would you feel?

This is a good question to ask yourself before sending any potentially critical, controversial, emotional or complex communication.

 We tend to send quick texts and emails without stopping to think about how the recipient might interpret them. Unfortunately, disagreements too often arise from hastily sent communications.

Next time, before pressing the “send” button, read the message. Ask yourself: how would I feel if I received this?  If you’d feel just fine, go ahead and send.

But if you just might feel upset or confused, do some editing. Sometimes taking only a few extra seconds can produce significantly better communication outcomes.
